Notifications

online:academy keeps you up to date on all important events — new mandatory assignments, peer reviews, certificates, streak milestones, group messages and more. You decide yourself what reaches you and through which channel.

Where you see notifications

Click the bell icon at the top right of the header. A dropdown opens with your current notifications.

  • Unread notifications are highlighted
  • Clicking a notification opens the associated content (course, peer review, certificate …)
  • Mark all as read at the top right of the dropdown — bulk action

What types of notifications there are

Type When it arrives
Course completed You have successfully finished a course
Certificate received A new certificate is available
Badge earned You have received a badge (course completion, milestone, streak …)
Learning path completed All courses of a learning path finished
Streak milestone Learning-streak achievement at 7, 30 or 100 days
Peer review received Someone has rated your submission
Peer review assigned You are asked to rate someone else's work
New enrollment You have been enrolled in a course
Mandatory assignment assigned A mandatory assignment has been created for you
Deadline approaching A mandatory-assignment deadline is coming up
Group message New message in a learning group you are a member of

Your own settings

Under Settings → Notifications:

  • Per notification type: On/Off
  • Choose the channel per notification type:
  • In-app — appears only at the bell icon
  • Email — additionally arrives by mail in your inbox
  • Both

Security notifications (e.g. "password was changed") cannot be turned off — they always arrive, so you can keep track of account activity.

Tips

  • Less mail noise: Turn on in-app only for everything you'll see in your day-to-day work anyway (streak, badges, group messages). Use email only for things you don't want to miss outside the platform (mandatory-assignment deadline, new mandatory assignment).
  • Cross-device: Notifications are stored server-side — if you read them on your laptop, they're also marked as read on your smartphone.

Frequently asked questions

I'm not getting any notification emails. Three possibilities:

  1. Email is disabled for that type in the settings — check under Settings → Notifications.
  2. The mail is landing in your mail program's spam folder — mark the sender as "not spam".
  3. The email address in your profile is out of date — check it under Profile.

I clicked "mark all as read" but still want to look at a notification in detail. The notification itself stays in the dropdown, it's just marked as "read". Clicking it takes you to the associated content as usual.

Do my managers or trainers get the same notifications as me? No — notifications are individual per account. Your trainer gets their own notifications for other events (e.g. "learner has completed course" or "mandatory assignment is overdue").

How old are the notifications I see? Usually the last 30-90 days. Very old notifications are occasionally cleaned up — the associated content (certificate, course, peer review) is not affected by this.
