Buying a course in a storefront (also as a guest)¶
Many companies offer their courses on their own storefront, a public page with an address like …/store/<company name>. There you can browse and buy courses without having an account first. Your access is created automatically when you buy.
Whether you can buy as a guest is up to the company. If purchases without signing in are switched off, the checkout asks you to sign in.
Browsing courses¶
The home page shows featured courses, benefits, quotes from other participants and frequently asked questions. Courses lists all courses. A course page shows the description, the price and how long access lasts: Unlimited access or Access for … days. Prices are final prices including statutory VAT; free courses are marked Free.
Add to cart sets a course aside, Book now takes you straight to the order. The cart is tied to your browser. A voucher code cannot be redeemed here.
Ordering¶
In the cart, click Checkout. The checkout asks for:
- Your account details: email address, first name, last name and a password of at least 12 characters. This creates your account with the company. If you are already signed in, you buy for your existing account and enter none of this.
- Your billing address (paid courses only): street and number, postcode, city and country. If you buy as a business, enter your VAT ID; it is optional.
- Two confirmations: you accept the terms and conditions and confirm you have read the privacy policy. For paid courses you also agree that access is provided immediately. This ends your statutory right of withdrawal for digital content.
Place order with obligation to pay takes you on; for free courses the button reads Enrol for free.
Paying with PayPal¶
For paid courses the PayPal buttons appear under Pay now with PayPal. You pay with your PayPal account or the payment methods offered there; the company does not see your payment details. The money goes directly to the company you buy from.
- If you cancel or the payment fails, nothing is charged. You can try again.
- If PayPal confirms the payment only after a few moments, the page shows Your payment is still being confirmed by PayPal. Your access is unlocked as soon as the payment arrives; you do not need to do anything.
- If it says PayPal is currently unavailable, the company cannot accept payments yet. Try again later or ask the company.
After the purchase¶
The page Thank you for your order! shows your order number. Go to learning area lets you sign in with your email address and password and start the course. You also receive:
- a confirmation email at the address you gave when ordering,
- for paid courses, the invoice as a PDF attached to that email. The issuer is the company you bought from.
You can open the order page again later with the order number and your email address, even without signing in.
If something does not work¶
| Message or situation | What you can do |
|---|---|
Registration fails and you see a general message with a reference (e.g. A1B2C3) |
For security reasons the page does not state the cause. Often an account already exists for that email address; in that case sign in. Otherwise write to the company and quote the reference. Nothing was charged |
| Password is rejected | Choose at least 12 characters |
| Course "no longer available" | The company has hidden the course. Look for alternatives under Courses |
| You want to undo the purchase | Contact the company you bought from. If the order is fully refunded, your access to the course ends; completed courses with a certificate stay. A partial refund leaves your access in place |
Who is my contracting party?
You do not buy from online:academy but from the company whose storefront you are visiting. That company's terms and privacy policy (links in the footer) apply. The page is provided via online:academy.
